The Kossev Consortium is excited to announce that Diana Cutaia, Director of Athletics for Wheelock College, will provide the conference's keynote address. Ms. Cutaia was recently featured in a Boston Globe article in which she outlined her unique philosophy toward athletics: Keep the focus on improvement, enjoyment, character, and team building, and the wins will follow. We are thrilled to have this innovative, inspiring leader kicking off the conference. Please read the article and learn more about Ms. Cutaia on the Wheelock Wildcats website; or better yet, come hear what she has to say on November 19 in Seattle.

As the largest rowing conference on the west coast, this event will offer coaching development for all levels of coaches and will include tracks and electives for youth, club and college coaches

The theme of this year’s conference is Innovative Leadership. In sport, leadership is about having a depth of knowledge but also having the tools to share that knowledge with athletes and staff. The sessions will provide attendees with theory and research from experts but also support the development of practical application of coaching and leadership skills.  Innovation stems from being well-grounded in the fundamentals of sport while being willing to take risks and chart new directions. The late Emil Kossev was a highly innovative leader in rowing, and this year’s conference hopes to spark the imagination of a new generation of athletic leaders.

Topics will include youth development in sport, biomechanics, performance psychology, and physiology with round table discussions on sustainable programming, fundraising, and organizational development.
Presentations by:

  • Dr. Valery Kleshnev, Ph.D., world renowned rowing science expert and Director of Biorow
  • Dr. Dan Tripps, Ph.D., Director of the Center for the Study of Sport & Exercise at Seattle University
  • Sara Lopez, M.Ed., Co-Director for the Center for Leadership in Athletics
  • Dr. Kevin Alschuler, Ph.D., Psychologist University of Washington
  • Bob Ernst, Women's Head Coach/Director of Rowing - University of Washington
